Jigawa Dare Rangers, Insurance
The Jigawa stars, toast of the moment in the Coca-Cola FA Cup, has sounded a note of warning to Edo Insurance, Enugu Rangers and other big names still as the competition as the FA Cup enters the exciting round of 16.
Jigawa Stars, who stunned 3SC of Ibadan 6-5 on penalties during their re-scheduled clash midweek in Abuja, attributed their victory to 'self belief, confidence, determination and unmatched motivation'.
According to the Team Manager, Dodo Isa: "We respect all teams and will approach all games with seriousness but we are no respecter of any big name. As far as we are concerned, a name is only a name. What determines the final outcome is not the sound of your name but t he size of your heart and level of determination and preparation. This is the message we drummed into the minds of our boys as they entered the 3SC game and that is the song we will still sing to them as we get into the crucial stage of the Coca-Cola competition. Yes we respect Rangers, Insurance, Sharks, and Julius Berger but when we get into the field of play, we will forget about their names and focus on winning.
"We will leave no stone unturned in motivating our players. They have already received their match bonuses and we have a lot more in stock. In fact the Jigawa state Governor and the team's No. 1 supporter was in Abuja to get a first hand account of the news. We have promised him the Coca-Cola FA Cup this year. Having taken 3rd place several times, our thirst for victory is more intense than ever before."
For Jigawa coach Taiye Yusuf, the victory over 3SC was another sweet repeat of any earlier win over the Oluyole Warriors. "In 1977 I beat the same 3SC at the same Abuja as Ranchers Bees. This gave me a personal psychological edge, which I recounted to the players. When you play with all your heart and all that you have got, victory comes closer. We will further fortify our attack, introduce a few more players and go into all the matches with an 'all or nothing' attitude.
Jigawa stars are now meeting the lower rated JC Raiders of Jos in the round of 16, starting next Wednesday. They will be careful not to get paid back in their medicine.
