Koda Welcomes Sarumi's Confirmation By Francis Ugwoke An indigenous shipping company, Koda International Limited has hailed the decision by government to retain Chief Adebayo Sarumi as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA "as a right steps". In a congratulatory message to the NPA helmsman, the shipping company noted that a lot of positive changes had taken place in the ports since Sarumi was appointed in an acting capacity almost a year ago. Chief Sarumi who turned sixty on Tuesday and was due for retirement having attained the mandatory age was reappointed by the Federal Government as the Managing Director of the NPA for another year. According to the company's spokesman, Mr Lanre Olufemi, Sarumi's regime has brought about a marked improvement in the ports especially in the area of security. Mr. Olufemi noted "Before Chief Sarumi came, we were almost chased out of business by the wharf rats, but today he has wiped out all the wharf rats. There is a great deal of improvement in security and this has restored the faith of operators in the sector. He has created an enabling environment." Another area where Chief Sarumi achieved a huge success, the Koda spokesman further stated is being able to curtail the restive nature of labour. "Today there is harmony existing amongst all stakeholders in the sector." The Obasanjo government, he remarked has demonstrated "a commitment to restoring sanity to Nigerian ports by reappointing Chief Sarumi.
