The
crisis of confidence between the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose and
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Sola Ajigbolamu, deepened on
Thursday as the governor was said to have ordered him to terminate the
appointment of all the assembly’s principal officers.
Daily
Independent learnt that the legislators, after deliberating on their
earlier meeting with the governor, however resolved not to sack any of
their principal officers.
The
legislators were also said to have resolved not to entertain the bill
earlier sent to them by the governor, describing it as illegal and
unconstitutional.
One of the law makers who
spoke with the Daily Independent in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said
the legislators held a closed door meeting with the governor on Wednesday
night during which the governor directed the removal of all except two of
the principal officers of the assembly. Fayose was said to have further ordered the
Speaker to remove Mr. Kola Fakiyesi, minority leader of the House and the
only member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Those
the governor wanted to remain in their posts, according to sources, were
Mr. Olubunmi Olugbade, the deputy majority leader and, Mr. Taiwo
Olatunbosun, the deputy speaker who were said to be his loyalists. The
source alleged that Fayose told them (legislators) specifically that the
two legislators should be spared because they briefed him on their
discussions with other speakers from the South West, except Lagos
State. During
the discussion, the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Mrs. Titi
Oseni, was said to have told them that the Ogun State Government gave her
N2 million as monthly imprest while that of Ondo State, Mr. Victor
Olabintan, also claimed that he received N1.7 million every month against
N500, 000 being received by the Ekiti House of Assembly speaker.
Consequently,
the Ekiti State legislators condemned the allowance given to them as
“peanut”. When the Daily Independent visited the assembly complex on
Thursday, all the Legislators were said to have moved to the party
secretariat to hold meeting with the leaders of the party.
