Nine masquerades remanded in Ilesa prison By ‘Gbenga Faturoti, Special Correspondent, Osogbo   Armed policemen on Tuesday averted a bloody clash between traditional religionists (masquerades) and members of Qamorudeen Islamic Society in Osogbo, the Osun State capital. The clash, Daily Independent learnt, occurred at Oluode area of Osogbo at about 2pm when some masquerades and their supporters invaded the mosque where members of Qamorudeen Islamic Society were worshipping. The invasion led to a bloody clash between the two groups where various dangerous objects were freely used. The intervention of the anti-riot policemen drafted to the scene prevented the clash from degenerating to an upheaval. While restoring peace, nine masquerades and their supporters were arrested by the police and immediately charge to court on Wednesday. The masquerades and their supporters were arraigned at Osogbo Magistrate Court on five count charges of conduct to breach the public peace, assault, stealing, malicious damage and causing bodily wounds to members of the Islamic society.       Copyright� 2002.
