2007: Obasanjo will support Ndigbo-Ex Ohaneze Scribe

NKIRU OKEKE, Enugu

The former National Publicity Secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief HBC Ogboko has expressed optimism that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo will support Nigeria's president of Igbo extraction come 2007.

THE Former National Publicity Secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief HBC Ogboko has expressed optimism that President Olusegun Obasanjo will support Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2007.

Chief Ogboko who made this known in an exclusive interview with Saturday Champion in Enugu on Wednesday, maintained that Obasanjo would support Igbo presidency as Igbos have only enjoyed the leadership of the country for about seven months out of Forty-four years since nationhood.

"Outstandingly, the inclusion of Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and Prof. Soludo among other Igbo technocrats by virtue of the appointments in the Economic Reform Team is evidence of change of heart, which bears hope for more", he said.

He therefore called on Ohanaeze Ndigbo, other Igbo cultural and social groups, Umuada Ndi Igbo, traders Associations, Town Union, as well as church organisations to join force together to ensure that the Igbo presidency is realised.

The Ohanaeze chieftain said that a statement credited to Chief Tony Anenih that the president Obasanjo would pick his successor had cleared the air on the issue of PDP, zoning the presidency to the North in 2007.

The development, he stressed has created a level playing ground for all contestants to the number one office in the country.

"What is regarded as a policy statement from no less a person than the chairman of PDP Board of Trustees on this very important issue, which has been characterised by speculations from top PDP leaders, has put to rest the doubt as to what is the party’s position on this very important matter."
