It was joy all through the police high command last Friday week, when at the Sheraton Hotels Lagos, the Inspector General of Police (IG) Tafa Balogun was honoured with the Public Service Personality of the year award, by Encomium magazines.
Presenting the Award to the IG, Senator Cosmas Nigwiam Osunbor said "this award is in recognition of his sterling leadership qualities as well as his transparent and selfless service to the nation."

The Senator noted that with the rebirth of democracy in 1999 and the smooth transition from civilian to civilian administration experienced in 2003 general elections, Nigerians can heve a sigh of relief that truly, democracy has come to stay, adding that in the light of this, Encomium Ventures Limited decided to recognise and celebrate major participants who have contributed positively to the political life of this great nation.

Another Senator, Alphonsus Ibe said "the most impressive thing Tafa Balogun has done was fighting to a standstill cross border banditry and nipping in the bud of high profile killings in the country."
Ibe said that the IG merited the award in the area of what he called disamament going on presently in the country adding, "the task force on the recovery of illegal firearms is worth celebrating because I was there when the Presidential Committee on Collection and Destruction of Firearms led by Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Minister of Defence, burnt 1065 assorted arms and 953 rounds of ammunition recovered by the police"

He said that the way and manner in which the police handled the last labour face-off with the Federal Government is worth of commendation adding "I salute the professional and mature way the strike was handled and there was no casualty recorded.
