Osolo urges Obasanjo to reconsider stance on council allocationYEKEEN OLAWALETHE new Osolo of Isolo in Lagos State, Oba Kabiru Kolawole Agbabiaka has joined other well-meaning people and organisations to prevail on President Olusegun Obasanjo to adopt political solution in resolving the on-going dispute over revenue allocation between the Federal Government and states that had created new councils. The Federal Government had insisted that the affected states would not receive any allocation from the Federation Account except they revert to the old councils. Oba Agbabiaka in an interview with the DAILY TIMES at the weekend said since the affected states created the councils out of political expediency, President Obasanjo should find political solution to the impasse so that the ordinary people will not suffer unnecessarily. He pointed out that except the impasse was resolved immediately, many of the states would not be able to deliver the dividends of democracy to the electorate while council workers might be thrown into the unemployment market. The royal father called on both the Presidency and the National Assembly to initiate moves that would enable traditional rulers have specific roles in the countrys constitution, pointing out that in many communities, traditional rulers are seen as father figures who should be ready to offer assistance, yet our constitution does not formally recognise them. Oba Agbabiaka said he would set up committees to carry out the census of companies and industries in his domain with a view to generating employment opportunities for the indigenes and non-indigenes. He appealed to the relevant agencies at the federal and state levels to assist in the rehabilitation of roads in Isolo and its environs, pointing out that the deplorable condition of some important access roads in my domain have constituted setback to economic development. The traditional ruler promised to hold meeting soon with those who contested the obaship but lost out, saying that all of us are brothers, we all mean well but the fact is that only one person can be oba at a time. He promised to integrate his rivals into advisory committees collectively work for the progress of Isololand.
