Nigeria invites Algeria to participate in oil sector privatisationNIGERIA has invited Algeria to participate in the privatisation of the downstream oil sector and the next upstream acreage bidding slated for the first quarter of 2005. The Presidential Adviser on Petroleum and Energy, Dr Edmund Daukoru, offered the invitation to Algerian oil minister, Dr Chakib Khaliel in Abuja at the end of his two-day visit to the country. A statement given to newsmen quoted Daukoru as saying the move would further deepen their relationship. He said the two countries had agreed to exchange information on investment opportunities available to them designed to maximise the value of their hydrocarbon resources. The two countries re-affirmed their commitment to the Trans-Sahara gas pipeline project and approved the work programme of the preliminary study on the project. The two parties agreed to meet again during the next bi-national commission conference in October. The statement was signed by Daukoru and Khaliel.
