Release Al-Mustapha, others over security breach, Obasanjo urgedANGELA NKWOTHREE months after some people were arrested for security breach, a call has been made for the release of six people still being held for the offence, amongst whom are Major Hamza Al-Mustapha and Onwuchekwa Okorie Onwuchekwa. The call was made by the President of the National Democratic Movement (NDM), Christ Nwakobia Jnr, and the Director of Publicity for Democratic Front (DF) Nickson Ufondu in a statement made available to the DAILYTIMES. According to the statement, the State Security Service (SSS) and the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI) had set up Special Investigatin Panel (SIP) to investigate the security breach alleged against 18 people, though12, including Coach Fanny Amun, Chief Azubuike Ekwerekwu, and Emeka Wawa had all been released. The duo called for the immediate release of Onwuchekwa who had been detained since March 15, Al-Mustapha and four others. Though a Federal High Court in Lagos granted Onwuchekwa leave to enforce his fundamental human rights in suit number FHC/C/CS/339/04, he was yet to be released. The two activists called on people to join and collectively demand the release of the persons still being held, or on the contrary, arraign them before a competent court. They called for the strict adherence to the rule of law, saying it is then that democracy could thrive. They called for the prompt application of the provisions of the law to matters pertaining to all detainees. The arrest of Major Al-Mustapha on March 31, at the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons where he was detained on the orders of an Ikeja High Court, blew open an alleged attempt by some people to breach the national security, perceived by many as a coup.
