ANPP: Our Govs Have Not Dumped Buhari From Chuks Okocha in Abuja All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has dismissed media report that its six governors have dumped the party's presidential candidate in the April 19, 2003 presidential elections, Major General Muhammadu Buhari. In a statement by the party's National Publicity Director, Ibrahim Modibo, ANPP said, " It is a comic relief to say that our governors have dumped Buhari for (Gen. Ibrahim) Babangida. The former Head of State, General Babangida is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has not associated himself with our great party. "So, we fail to see reason that our governors are supporting him since our constitutional provision has not allowed one person to hold dual political partisanship. The story is just imaginative. "It is the wishful thinking of our political foes to set an imaginary stage with a pre-designed script, suggestive of conflict, chaos and crisis of monumental dimension with a desperate bid to disintegrate the party. "ANPP's support for General Muhammadu Buhari's crusade at the Court of Appeal against General Olusegun Obasanjo has become endemic and our critics who lack the proper understanding of the working of our party attempts to create imaginary problems with phenomenal capacity to create mischief and divisive tendencies have been crying wolf where there is none." ANPP maintained in the statement that the relationship between Buhari and the governors was smooth, adding, "one would need divine guidance and inspiration to draw a dividing line between the position of our governors and that of our presidential candidate on many political issues."
