Debt Forgiveness: Atiku Takes Campaign to London Club

Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken the campaign for Nigeria's debt forgiveness to the London Club.

During his three-day official visit to London, Atiku would discuss the issue of debt forgiveness, which the Federal Government has described as very important in its drive to ensure the rapid development of the economy.

He would also meet with the British Under-Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Mr Chris Mullin, to discuss the need for increased foreign investment in Nigeria.

Discussions between the two is also expected to include issues on support of the British government for Nigeria's National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy, (NE-EDS).

He was accompanied on the trip by governors of Yobe and Bayelsa states, Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim and Chief Diepreiye Almieyeseigha and the Minister for Commerce, Ambassador Idris Waziri.

Atiku, who is expected back tomorrow, would also be hosted by the former Secretary of State for Overseas Development, Baronness Lynda Chalker, to a private lunch with officials of the British-Nigeria Association and Royal which would be held in his honour.

He is also scheduled to visit the Oxford University where Emeritus fellow, Anthony Kirk-Greene, an authority on the history of Northern Nigeria, would host him.

The VP would also meet with leading members of the Nigerian community in Britain, with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Tanko; Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council, Mustapha Bello and some of his top advisers and personal aides who are also part of the entourage.
