Midddle Belt Group Seeks Severance from North From Chuks Okocha in Abuja The Middle Belt Liberation Vanguard (MBLV) has thrown its weight behind the call by former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Solomon Lar, for the severance of Middle Belt from the rest of the northern Nigeria as the panacea for peace in the north. The group was reacting to media attacks by a member of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Ismalia Isa Funtua, who lambasted Lar for advocating the bifurcation of the old northern region to give voices to other ethnic groups that are under the bondage of the Hausa Fulani. The Middle Belt Liberation Vanguard in a statement signed by its President General, Aaron Smart and Secretary General Barrister C. J. Dukas, reminded Isa Funtua whom they said was representing the North-west or the Hausa Fulani that the Middle Belt was no longer an appendage of the political hegemony of the North-west and therefore should be allowed to decide its political future. The group said the comment of Lar that the north should be further divided represented the view of all Middle Belters saying, "Chief Lar spoke our mind and we stand by him." The statement said, "Hausa Fulani should bear in mind that the liberation and total emancipation of the Middle Belt from the hegemony of the Hausa-Fulani is an event whose time has come. "Alhaji Ismalia Isa Funtua and his likes should bear in mind that the Middle Belt is no longer part and parcel of the Hausa-Fulani hegemony and therefore should not be queried when it airs its views on northern politics.
