NICON Yet to Receive Proceeds of Stripped Assets - Soares By Nnamdi Duru A year after the promise to return proceeds of assets stripped off NICON by the Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE), was made, the management of the company said it was yet to receive the money realised from sale of the assets. The corporation, which said it has received a strong assurance from government that the money would be returned to its coffers, puts the figure at about N2 billion. The Managing Director of the corporation, Ms. Prisca Soares, made this disclosure in an interview with newsmen at the "2004 NICON/Brokers' Forum" in Lagos on Thursday. "Yes, a decision has been taken and we have been assured that the money will be returned. We haven't got it yet. We expect to get it soon", she said. On the amount the corporation is expecting from BPE, Soares said, "you know what the assets are worth, certainly, we are expecting all of it. We should be getting something in the region of N2 billion, the ones that has been sold". She acknowledges that management of the corporation and BPE have been meeting in what she described as 'a working session' where strategies would be worked out on how to successfully privatise the government-owned underwriting firm.
