Shekarau Blames 'Unseen Hands' for Kano Riots From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo Kano State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau at the weekend attributed the recent religious crisis in the state to the handiwork of some politicians that wanted to discredit his administration. He told newsmen in Osogbo, shortly after attending the interactive session of the state chapter of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) 50th anniversary that "the people of Kano state are peace loving people who always go out to practise their religion without fear or coercion." He said those who do not believe in their own tenets wanted to throw the peace-loving state into chaos." The governor said, "the recent religious crisis in my state is politically motivated. The state is peaceful. All the residents and non-residents are living peacefully devoid of any fear". Shekarau added that his government had brought a new lease of life to the people of the state since he assumed of office. He said "my government has recalled over 2,000 workers sacked by my predecessor in office, Alhahi Rabiu Kwankwaso." He said apart from this: "I have recruited over 2,500 sanitation workers that keep the state clean and tidy." He, however, called on the people of the state to continue to support his government to move the state forward.
