'Govt Needs Accurate Living Standard Index' From Emmanuel ugwu in Enugu Deputy governor of Enugu State, Chief Okechukwu Itanyi has asked the Federal Office of Statistics (FOS) to provide the state with accurate data that would enable the state government assess the standard of living in the state. He made the call when he received the Director of the Federal Office of Statistics, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru at the Government House, Enugu, noting that such living index statistics would enable government redirect resources towards poverty reduction. Itanyi, who told the FOS director said that aside from "massive infrastructural development" the main focus of Nnamani's administration was poverty reduction. According to him, the state government was able to launch the war against poverty based on the statistics provided by such agencies as the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID), which indicated that poverty is a stark reality in Enugu State. The deputy governor expressed delight at the pace of infrastructural development in the state, saying that it has expanded the economy at the commercial and industrial sectors hence one can safely conclude that Enugu is no longer wearing the toga of a civil service state. He commended the establishment of the Federal Office of Statistics in Enugu but asked the director to make a formal request for land on which to build the permanent site, adding that he was optimistic that Governor Nnamani would give the request the necessary attention.
