Govt Needs N53m to Train Teachers Katsina From Jare Ilelaboye in Katsina Katsina State Ministry of Education has said it wold cost about N53 million to train 12,000 unqualified teachers in the state who have not got professional qualifciation such as NCE and grade two teachers certificate. Stating this in Katsina recently the state Comm-issioner of Education, Dr Mustapha Inuwa, while briefing the press on the activities of his ministry, said the teachers would be trained through the National Teachers Institute in Kaduna and through long distance learning programme of the institute during this current year. Inuwa said over 8,000 teachers would be upgraded through the long distance learning programme while about 4,200 would receive training qualifying them as NCE teachers. He pointed out that government embarked on the new measure in view of the fact that by 2007, any teacher not having professional qualification would be barred from teaching all over the federation, and the only way to improve the quality of teachers in the state is to assist in training them. He also announced that government has set up about 20 high technical computer centres in some of its secondary schools, to make both teachers and students computer literate. The commissioner said government embarked on the measure because without computer education many student's would find it difficult to adjust anywhere they may find themselves after their school career. He said the education expenditure of government in the state has reached one billion mark, because government attaches more importance to education since without education, there can be no progress.
