Galadima Backs Okocha Nigeria's FA chairman Ibrahim Galadima has said the national team cannot continue to rely on the skills of Super Eagles captain Jay-Jay Okocha. Declaring his inability to play in every 2006 World Cup qualification game, the 30-year-old midfielder has missed two out of Nigeria's last three group matches. Okocha, who has played for the Super Eagles for over ten years, said he wants to concentrate on his club career with English Premiership side Bolton Wanderers. "I have made it very clear to the NFA that I cannot play in every game and I hope they are listening," Okocha recently told BBC Sport. Fans of Nigeria's national team were critical of Okocha's absence from World Cup qualifying games against Rwanda and Angola. Although he played in Nigeria's last qualifier against Algeria, which they won 1-0, there is uncertainty about his availability for their game against Zimbabwe in September. Galadima said the gradual exit of Okocha from the national team is a bitter pill the country has to swallow. "I feel bad about Okocha's decision but it is a natural development," Galadima told BBC Sport. "He's aging and is not as energetic as he was ten years ago. "If he says that he cannot play in every national team game we have to respect his decision and begin to groom a replacement. "He has given good service to his country for the last ten years and we must appreciate what he has done for us," Galadima said.
