An Abuja-based lawyer, Mrs. Amaka Mbadiwe-Ohia, has emerged winner at the northern zonal contest of the 20th Maggi National Cooking Competition held recently in Kaduna. Mrs. Amaka Mbadiwe-Ohia, whose menu of winning heartland delight served with papaya pudding was adjudged best during the keenly contested competition, went home with the bumper prize of a bedroom refrigerator and a set of pots.
Other contestants who came out tops during the Maggi zonal contest include Mrs. Inemesit Adeniyi- Phillips, an Abuja-based Marketing Manager, and Miss Hajarat Bagodu, a University of Maiduguri undergraduate. Both contestants went home with the second prize of a 14-inch colour television plus a set of 26 plates, and a third prize of a deep fat fryer plus electric kettle respectively.
Adeniyi-Phillips winning menu consists of Abak Asa-Iwa Isip served with baked pawpaw, while Bagudu prepared guinea corn dumpling with grilled fish served with pawpaw snowdrops as dessert.
According to Nestle's Group Product Manager (Food), Mrs. Iquo Ukoh, a high level of interest and keen participation has marked this year's contest. She stated that the creative ingenuity of the contestants, heightened by the star prize of a Honda Civic Exi Inspire 2004 model car has enabled them to come up with highly creative and outstanding menus.
Mrs. Ukoh also explained that the top three contestants have automatically qualified for the Maggi grand finale where they stand the chance of winning additional exciting prizes such as a brand new Honda Civic Exi Inspire 2004 model car plus weekend for two at Nicon Hilton Hotel, Abuja for the Cook of the Year, a six-burner gas cooker, fridge freezer and microwave oven for the first runner-up, a deep freezer, set of pots and set of chinaware for the second runner-up, and consolation prizes of three loader VCD's plus cake mixer for all other contestants.
