APCON Opens Kano Zonal Office, Elevates Nine

The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) has commissioned the Council's zonal office in Kano State to cater for its activities in Northern Nigeria. The Council has also approved the elevation in ranks of some key management and staff of the regulatory body.
On the commissioning of the Kano office, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero who received the APCON delegate during a courtesy call to his palace commended the governing council of APCON for promoting advertising as a unifying force in Nigeria. He called on the people of Kano to support APCON and its activities.
Responding on behalf of APCON, its chairman Mr. May Nzeribe who led APCON on the visit said the choice of Kano as a zonal office and an examination centre was to service the North-East geo-political zone of Nigeria.
Members of the APCON council while in Kano, had consultations with the Kano State Government and also paid a facility visit to Freedom radio, a leading private radio station based in Kano. Freedom Radio began transmission in the populous city of Kano December 2003 with signals received in Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Niger , Plateau and Nasarawa States. Freedom which radio has been embraced as the new brand within its areas of coverage with its the tag line: Muryar Jama'a meaning Voice Of The People.
On the recent elevation at the APCON's secretariat in Lagos, a statement from the Council says the promotion exercise, which was ratified at the 99th governing Council meeting of APCON has Mr. Bola Agboola, formerly, Assistant Director, Regulatory, Monitoring and Enforcement, moved up to the rank of Deputy Director; Mr. Yusuf Danesi promoted to the rank of Assistant Director from his former position of Chief Research, Planning and Statistics Offficer. Others elevated are: Mrs. Margaret Okoli, Principal Personnel Officer of the Council who has moved up to the rank of Assistant Chief Personnel Officer; Miss Martha Onyebuchi, formerly Senior Regulatory, Monitoring and Enforcement Officer is now the Principal Regulatory, Monitoring and Enforcement Officer; while, Mr. Joe-Eugene Onuorah who had been the Registration and Career Development Officer now assumes the position of the Principal Registration Officer.
Mr. Alfred Akokhia is now Membership Affairs Officer I; Mr. Jide Olishile, Career Development Officer II, Mr. Rowland Nwaka becomes Senior Clerical Officer; Mr. Godwin Isaiah, Typist Grade I and Mr. Isaac Udofot, Senior Cleaner.
The statement further said all the promotions take effect from January 1, and financially effect from June 2004.
