Niger Delta youths disown Dokubo

By Chukwudi Abiandu

Night Editor, Lagos

The self-styled freedom fighter for the people of Niger Delta, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, is in deep trouble and it appears there will be no hiding place for him.

Reason: The Congress of Niger Delta Youths (CNDY), an amalgamation of all youth bodies in the Niger Delta, has denounced the activities of the social reject and leader of the militia group that claims to be fighting for the emancipation of the people of Niger Delta.

In a statement at the weekend in Lagos, the CNDY through its President, Comrade Mfon Joe Etukudoh, used such words as “miscreant, outcast, agent of destabilisation, notorious criminal and known terrorist” to describe Asari Dokubo.

In the statement, the congress expressed its disdain and utter embarrassment of the nuisance exhibited by Dokubo.

Entitled “Asari Dokubo is a wanted criminal,” the statement enjoined the leadership of the parliamentary caucus from the Niger Delta of the House of Representatives to advise the people of Niger Delta, the Nigerian nation, the international community and all men of goodwill to ignore the clown as his days were numbered and the long arm of the law would catch up with the miscreant, who it said must account for his misdeeds and innocent blood he has shed.

Etukudo recalled the congress’ earlier statement on the activities of hoodlums who hide under the aegis of fighting for the survival of the people of Niger Delta in which the CNDY dissociated itself from the activities of Dokubo and disowned him and all those associated with him.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC), Ijaw National Congress (INC) and Congress of Niger Delta Youths (CNDY) are legitimate vehicles for the promotion of change with the objective to seek, through dialogue, the economic and political development of the people of Niger Delta who have suffered deprivation and degradation as a result of oil exploration and exploitation over several decades,” Etukudo stated, adding: “We are not a militant group and will resist any attempt by Asari Dokubo and his cohorts to cloth us in the ‘colour’ of a militia.”
