Expectations
heighten as Isolo gets new Oba
By Stella Odueme
Reporter, Lagos.
With the coronation of the new king, Oba
Kabiru Adelaja Kolawole Alani Agbabiaka, Ilufemiloye Aina-Igbeto Adeola 111 as
Oba of Isolo, residents of Isolo have expressed high hopes towards speedy
development of the community.
Speaking with Daily Independent in Lagos, Chairman
House Committee on Health, Isolo Local Government, Mr Shakir-ud-deen Sadiq,
said that the local government would rally round the Oba to bring development
to the community.
According to him, the choice of Agbabiaka
as the new Oba for the area would bring positive change to the community. While
recounting the achievements of the late Oba Ayinde Goloba who donated the site
where the ultra-modern Aswani market is being sited and a hosts of other
developmental projects, he said that much was expected of the new Oba as the
people held him in high esteem. “We hope that with his goodwill and
influence, he can bring more positive development to Isolo”, he said.
According to him, the kingmakers supported
the Monarch, and the people saw no reason why support should not be extended to
the Oba.
Commenting on the legal tussle for the
throne, he said that there was bound to be objections more especially when two
or more people were interested in the throne in the royal family.
“However at the end of the day, after the Ifa Oracle and the kingmakers
chose Oba Agbabiaka, the staff of office was given to him and we would continue
to back him up”, he said.
He said that such a problem could not go on
forever and that at the end of the day, one person would be the Oba, adding
that the people of Isolo would continue to be losers if the situation was allowed to prevail.
Oba Agbabiaka who performed the Ita ritual
yesterday was said to have visited the five places where the first settlers in
Isolo settled to pay homage.
Sadiq said that after a period of eight
days, there would be another ceremony to felicitate with the Oba, adding that
after marking the eight days in office, the local government would pay an
official visit to him to deliberate on the problems in the community with a
view to finding lasting solution to them.
According to him, the local government had
already detailed police orderly and personal drivers to the Oba was said to be
grateful to the local council.
He expressed the support of local
government to rally round the Oba in the task of rebuilding the Isolo community
and implored residents to remain claim and continue to support the new ruler to
facilitate the desired growth and development to the community.
Another resident, Mr Bisi Ade, while pledging his support for the new
Oba, said that he would help in reconstructing the community to an enviable
state.
