Each week I try to buy and read at least
three newspapers from my pocket money as a student, but the things contained in
these papers do not in anyway encourage me; they make me wonder and speculate
with apprehension what my future is going to be like in this country where
corruption is the order of the day and effort to live a corruption-free life is
thwarted at every turn.
Please editor, could you use your good offices to try
and mix the content of your paper with things/issues other than the brutality
of our politicians and fanaticism of religious leaders and their followers.
Could less emphasis be placed on these issues and more emphasis on stories
like, ‘the best graduating students of the year,’ ‘career
opportunities,’ ‘scientific innovations’ and such issues that
will help to stimulate the minds of the youths and encourage them to take a
peep more often into our dailies than into fun magazines and chatting on the internet
and crazy fashion?
This may sound childish but I am compelled to send
this mail exactly the way I wrote it whether it is read or not.
Worried youth,
Ify Eze (Noonwine)
