Super Eagles chief
coach Christian Chukwu says his invitation by the Confederation of Africa
Football (CAF) to a symposium should not be seen as slight on his employers for
failing to send him on refresher courses.
Chukwu told Daily
Independent that NFA’s delay in sending him on refresher courses was not
because they were not interested in updating his knowledge, but that they preferred a course that they
believed was in tandem with modern day football.
Chukwu added that
plans are in the pipeline to send him to England for a course.
Recently, the apex
body extended an invitation to the Eagles helmsman to be their guest at the
symposium to rub minds on how to improve the fortunes of the game in the
continent.
Chukwu’s
invitation which is in recognition of his immense contributions which dates
back to his playing days. He captained the national team to win the Nations Cup
in 1980 and was captain of Rangers
International for close to a
decade. Chukwu is expected to leave for Accra, Ghana, venue of the two-day symposium, today.
Elated at the
invitation, which he received prior to the Nigeria/Algeria World Cup qualifier,
Chukwu expressed his delight, as he believed that the multiplier effect of
interacting with seasoned professionals would serve as a platform to further
better football in Nigeria.
