Kaduna Fifth Chukka
Friday confirmed its supremacy
of the Nigeria polo
scene when it successfully defended the Emir of Katsina Cup it won at the last Kano polo tournament.
Playing like a team
infused with the winning bug, the
Adamu Attah led
side overwhelmed its opponents, Kaduna Kakuri beating them by 9-5 in a match
watched
by a full crowd led
by President of Nigeria Polo Association, Senator Idris Ibrahim Kuta.
Sayyu Dantata
opened scoring for the winning side with a quick goal in less than two minutes
into the game of the First Chukka and dominated throughout the seven minutes
the match lasted.
Dantata, who no
doubt was the man of match made it double when he raced down the field in a
solo run that attracted applause from polo fans that thronged the venue to
watch the encounter.
On return for the
second Chukka, Kaduna Kakuri returned fire and chalked up two quick goals in
succession before Adamu Attah increased the tally for the side that won the
Majekodunmi Cup in February.
Attah who all the
while had remained silent burst lose again in the fourth to bring the tally to
4 as against their opponents.
Situation remained
the same for Kakuri who tormented by Sayyu Danatata made the match look like
the Biblical David and Goliath fight. This time around however, the Goliath in
Fifth Chukka was not disgraced as they went on to wallop Kakuri by 9-solid
goals to 5.
Meanwhile, Lagos
Polo club’s representative in the on-going tournament, Lagos Machine has
qualified for the final of the Dantata Cup. Yesterday evening at the polo
ground in Kano, Lagos Machine ran over their opponent from Kaduna Karama
beating them by 6-4 to move into the final that would be decided on Saturday.
Though unconfirmed
reports have it that both teams were disqualified, however Lagos Machine was
scheduled to trade horse against Kano IRS .
