Abti wins Audu Bako Cup
The Kano polo tournament which entered
day-6 yesterday has continued to live up to expectation as visiting Yola Abti defeated home
team, Kano Mohsons in an encounter
decided at the Murtala Mohammed way polo ground.
The visiting Abti beat Mohsons by 7-6 to
emerge winner of the Audu Bako Cup, a tournament open to players with handicap
range -2 to +1 total
The match played over four Chukka saw the
visiting team take the war to the vital areas of the home team and had two
goals to show just before the end of the first Chukka.
Parading players like the up and coming
Kabiru Ubandoma who plays off -2, Zurkhal Naini Mohammed 0-handicap, Mohammed
Buba +2 and Hamman Adama against a not too formidable side Mohsons, the
Ubandoma led side tore through the tight field on its way to victory.
Also decided yesterday was Dagote Cup. The
event was competed for by Kano IRS and Kaduna Xennon. At the end of the
encounter ,Kaduna Xenon outplayed Kano IRS beating them by a respectable score
of 5-4.
Speaking shortly after the encounter,
captain of the victorious Kaduna Xenon commended the effort of his team mate
saying the victory goes to them.
“It is
not a glory one person can lay claim to”, he explains, adding that it was
a well fought tournament and that they were lucky to have come out tops. On his part, Babuji Sani Dangote said
his team had expected a tough competition but noted that though it is good to
emerge winner but the most important thing is the spirit of sportsmanship,
which everybody that took part in the chukka tourney exhibited.
