2007 Presidency:10 Northern Govs Meet From Agaju Madugba in Kaduna President Olusegun Obasanjo's recent pronouncement that there was no definitive decision yet on which zone will produce the president in 2007 may lead deliberations at an emergency meeting of the governors of the 19 northern states which openning this morning in Kaduna. Although the governors had at an earlier meeting resolved to ensure that the President comes from the north, a source close to the Governors' Forum hinted that Obasanjo's proclamation had tended to engender misgivings among the governors. According to the source, "they (governors) will respond to Obasanjo's declaration that there was no decision as to where the Presidency will go yet, between the north and the south. "The north has decided to take a conclusive position on the issue of power shift because we believe in the unity of this country. If justice and equity is to be the watchword, then there is need for the governors to come out with their position on the 2007 Presidency." The source also hinted that the governors would equally discuss modalities for the realisation of the proposed northern unity and peace convention which had been postponed twice. THISDAY checks indicated that slight disagreement among the governors as well as sundry other reasons had led to the abortion of the convention. "The meeting will give the governors the opportunity to address the grey areas concerning the convention," the source said adding that, "the governors are also expected to deliberate on how to raise about N25 billion recapitalisation base for Bank of the North (BON) as well as the moribund Kaduna Textiles Limited."
