Nigeria, US Sign N57bn Coal Agreement From Iyefu Adoba and Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja United States of America Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) yesterday endorsed our agreement with Nigeria's Solid Mineral Ministry to sponsor a feasibility study on coal resource development in the country worth $410,800 (about N57 billion of N140 ,,,,,,). Under the agreement a feasibility study will be conducted to review all mining sites, prepare reserve estimates, investigate the rehabilitation of coal mines and study mineral processing options. A contractor to be selected by the US agency through competitive bidding process will conduct market study, a preliminary environmental impact and mitigation analysis and an economic analysis. Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister for Solid Mineral Development, Elder Odion Ugbesia, the sealing of the sponsorship agreement was one of the high point the present administration's effort to attract foreign investment to enable it develop and tap the country's numerous natural resources. He said that the country is richly endowed in coal that can be utilize for various purposes, such as power generation, steel production and a lot others. For us in the Solid Minerals Ministry, today's event is another fulfillment in our campaign to fully explore avenues for the exploitation of the nation's natural resource endowment to the economic benefit of the populace", he said.
