Ecological Fund: 'Lagos Didn't Receive N4bn' By Shaka Momodu Lagos State government yesterday denied President Olusegun Obasanjo's claim that the state received N4 billion as ecological fund from Federal Government between 1999 and 2004. The State Deputy Governor, Mr Olufemi Pedro said the state got only N800 million as against the President's claim. Besides, Pedro explained yesterday in Lagos, that the disbursement was between 1999 and 2002, adding that it has not received any ecological fund since then. The deputy governor made the revelation while hosting office members of the House of Representatives Committee on Governmental Affairs. According to him, the state did not receive a kobo despite claims by Federal Government that it has spent N4 billion of ecological fund in Lagos. Obasanjo in one of his monthly media chat had said his administration had disbursed the fund to tackle ecological fund in the "Centre of Excellence." But Pedro noted that the President got it all wrong as he blamed the environmental degradation in Lagos on the long years of neglect by Federal Government. According to him, the state could have been worse off environmentally if the state had not committed part of its meagre resources to fight environmental degradation. "Between 1999 and 2002, from the records available, Lagos has received only N800 million as ecological fund. It is not correct that N4 billion was given to Lagos.
