'Only PDP Agent Signed Result Sheet '
Anambra
From Charles Onyekamuo in Awka
A witness, Mr Godwin Onyebuchi Okeke, yesterday told the Election Petition Tribunal hearing the petition brought by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the April 19, 2003 governorship/presidential election in Anambra State, that only PDP agent signed the result sheet collated at his Umuenwelum Anam Ward in Anambra West Local Government area of the state.
Okeke (DW 98), who claimed to be a fisherman, told the Hon. Justice Garba Nabaruma led five-man tribunal sitting in Awka, that he belonged to the PDP and that elections took place at the Nkwoawali Village Square in the Umuenwelum-Anam Ward on April 19,2003.
After going through the processes of being shown the stamp-pad and ink with which he thumb-printed the ballot papers, folded same and put them inside the ballot box, Okeke said the same INEC officials gave him back his card and painted a finger on his left hand with an ink, after which he stayed back to watch conclusion of elections.
Okeke's testimony was supposed to be part of the aggregated evidences assembled by Governor Ngige, to respond to two prosecution witnesses PW27 and PW29 who testified for Peter Obi earlier in the proceedings that elections never took place in Anambra East and West local government areas, but that results were written in the homes of PDP topshots.
But after saying that he observed people vote peacefully in his polling unit, Okeke, led in evidence by Mr Emeka Ngige (SAN), said the polling officer (PO) wrote his name on the result sheet after votes had been counted and sorted into governorship/presidential votes and party by party, adding that he (PO) also signed his name, stamped and dated the document.
He, however, said when the PO for his polling unit called other party agents to come and sign the collated result, they refused, a situation that made only the PDP agent to sign. He didn't tell the court why other party agents refused to signed the result sheet.
However, under cross-examination by Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), counsel for Peter Obi, Okeke, said only PDP agents signed the result sheet and that he didn't go to his ward collation centre, and neither did he see the INEC officials there too.
