Controversy Trails Groups' Ban Delta From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba Controversies has continue to trail proscription of two socio-political groups, Equity 2007 and Core Group by Delta State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The state Chairman of the party, Dr. Pius Sinebe, had last week announced the proscription of the two groups, citing overheating of the polity as reason for the proscription. Leader of one of the groups who spoke to THISDAY yesterday in Asaba under condition of anonymity, said proscription of any legitimate group under a democratic setting was unconstitutional. According to him, Governor Ibori recently convened meeting of an inner caucus of the party at his home in Oghara, where it was agreed that government and elected officers from the ward to the national level should not participate openly in activities of the groups. The source hinted that it was this agreement that the governor announced at the executive council meeting, wondering where Dr. Sinebe got his own directives to proscribe the groups from. Choosing not to join issues with the state chairman of the party, he, however, said "announcement by Dr. Sinebe and his secretary was a misinformation passed to the public, they are acting on their own as nobody has banned any group".
