Rogenics' Symbols Make Waves at NSE Convention
Echoes emanating from the recently held bi-annual conference and exhibition of the Nigerian Stock Exchange in Abuja are yet to die down for indigenous financial services solutions providers, Progenics Corp Limited, even after the event had ended. This is probably due to the impressive showing of the company's newly developed Stock Broking and Investment Management software, Symbols at the event that saw a constellation of stock market industry players and regulators for the three day affair.
Recalling the effect the new application created at the even, Mr. Peter Ejiofor head of business development for progrenics stated thus, "in terms of endorsements, I reckon that most of the stock broking firms present at the even were very keen on the unique features of Symbols, in addition to representatives from the regulatory body itself, NSE".
The feeling of the Progenics team, which had a media presentation of the new product penultimate week, is that the experiences the company have garnered over the years developing application solutions for the banking and finance industry came in very handy in developing Symbols. This is because the application, which is the very first of its kind to be built using the new Oracle 10g database platform, has been developed to offer comprehensive modules to cover stock broking portfolio management, customer accounting a full accounting system in one package.
For rest of the Progenics delegation to the NSE event, the general feeling of contentment continues as one is constantly remained that Symbols was a product borne out of the observation of operational problems encountered daily by stockbrokers. Some of the product's features as stated by the managing director of the company, Mr. Tony Udoh at the media presentation, are meant to ensure that, "capital market operators get the best return on their IT investment and reduce the need for mixing solutions from multiple vendors together with the accompanying interface problems."
With future needs of the market already taken into consideration in the development of the package like on-line trading and web based customer service delivery, Symbols has interfaces to the NSE, A.T.S for upload and download,, CSCES for trade settlements, Registrars for verification and validation, and SEC for statutory reporting. When asked about the level of support for the new product, Mr. Ejiofor explained that Progenics already has a reputation for providing efficient after sales for its products and that Symbols will not be an exemption.
He also said that regular upgrades will be released for the product to ensure that it remains current with technology advances.
It will be recalled that Progenics is the pioneer indigenous software and total solutions development firm in the country with competence in Finance, Banking and Capital markets, as well as the public sector.
