Amidst allegation that the exercise was
politically motivated, Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Agagu, has inaugurated a
six-man commission of inquiry to probe the controversial four contracts awarded
by his predecessor in office, Chief Adebayo Adefarati.
The contracts to be investigated are the
N17.5 billion Igbohodo Ayetoro Road, N466 million (1st phase) Riverside
Electricity project, N206 million new stadium complex consultancy contract and
the alleged spending of N506 million public funds between April 2002 and May
2003 “without budgetary provision and for unascertainable
purposes.”
A statement from the Governor’s
office said the commission of inquiry has Justice William Akintoroye as
chairman and Mr. Akin Arounmolase, secretary.
Other members of the commission are Prof.
Yomi Dinakin, Mr. I.O. Dayisi, Mr. Olu Akintorin and Prof. Clement
Ayodele. Inaugurating the
committee, Governor Agagu said the inquiry became necessary because the
expenditures were unclear even after inviting officials involved to explain the
situation.
