Delta Queens players keep Nkoyo waiting

Delta Queens players presently on national assignment with
the Super Falcons are said to be keeping Delta State first lady, Mrs Nkoyo Ibori from making good her promise
to host the team which emerged
league champions last season
Sources informed Daily Independent that celebrations
should have been held midway into
the league but the absence of majority of its players who are on national
assignment prevented the first lady from fulfilling her promise.
Sources said that her Excellency was
disturbed with reports making the rounds that she raised the hopes of the
players with a promise of saying thank you at a befitting ceremony in Asaba,
which she has failed to do.
Although it was believed that she would
have hosted the team last December as promised, certain events at that time
overtook the scheduled ceremony.“At the moment, most of the players are
away on national assignments. If not she would have hosted the team. From what we
know, she is ready to host them to prove that she really meant it,” said
an aide. Mrs. Ibori would host the team after the Olympics in September, the
aide said.
At the moment, close to 16 players are with
the female national team, the Super Falcons in Germany on a training tour ahead
the Olympics in Athens while about 10 are with the U-19 Falconets playing in
the world qualifiers. The club also lost players to Super Falcons Team B
competing in the Africa Women Championship qualifiers.
Apart from losing their players to the
different national camps, the champions have only coach Peter Dedevbo on the
coaching crew as coaches Dan Evumena and Uche Eucharia are away with the teams.
