Those spared are the Governing Council of Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU), Imo State Civil Service Commission and local Government Service Commission. In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ignatius Umunna, all the sacked board and committee members of different government institutions were directed to handover all government property in their possession to their chief executives or the next senior staff in the line of such institutions. He further directed that the handover formalities should be completed before two days from July 19. The statement reads: inter alia "the dissolution takes effect from July 19, 2004. The process of handover must be completed in the next two days. All the chief executives are hereby directed to ensure the smooth handling of their organisations until new boards, governing councils and executive committees are put in place."
