Woman petitions Osun House over police killing
A MIDDLE-aged woman has petitioned the Osun State House of Assembly over the murder of her husband, one Jimoh Sule, by three men suspected to be policemen.
Presenting the petition on the floor of the House on Wednesday, through Layi Adebiyi, a councillor, Mrs. Mulika Sule said her husband was killed in his residence by the three men in the presence of their daughter, Kafaya Sule.
Adebiyi further explained that the assailants squeezed the head of the deceased, an indigene of Ara-Osa in Ife South Local Council and gave him a poisonous substance which killed him before any attempt could be made to take hin to a hospital.
According to the petitioner, the case was reported at the Ifetedo Police Station which responded by assigning police officers to effect the arrest of the culprits.
Adebiyi said: "The police officers later identified the three as their colleagues and arrested them," while noting that "the killing came after an earlier visit by the three to the Sules, where they were even served rice."
He, however, regretted that three months after their arrest nothing has been heard of the case, but rather the police has been harrassing the family over the issue, hence the petition, adding that the body of the deceased was still lying at the mortuary of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.
Responding to the petition, the Speaker of the House, Adejare Bello, after asking the petitioner some questions referred the case to the House Committee on Security Matters headed by Wole Ogunsenmi, who was charged to carry out a thorough investigation over the matter and summit his reports within two weeks.
Bello, assured the petitioner that the House would carry out full investigation in order to bring the culprits to book if found guilty.`
