BENIN CITY — GROUP Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Funso Kupolokun says the Federal Government has given the corporation a new mandate to transit from an oil company to an integrated oil and gas company and obtain an upward review of national quota from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The NNPC boss who was represented by Mallam Abubakar Wazi told employees of the Integrated Data Services Limited, a subsidiary of the corporation in Benin City that the mandate entailed an immediate and comprehensive transformation of the company.
Lamenting that many of NNPC’s business processes were still manual and archaic, he said “I will like to see a stronger performance in accountability” to enable the company achieve improved levels of international competitiveness and sustainable profitability by expanding participation in the oil and gas industry and pursuing deregulation.
“When you array internal situation against the challenges and mandate enunciated above, you see the enormity and complexity of the challenge we have to undertake and the imperative for this to happen within a fairly aggressive time frame. And also for these reasons we would need help to drive this change process.
"Accordingly, the management and board of the NNPC has contracted two competent and reputable organizations, Accenture and Shell Global Solutions to help us with this transformation initiative. We have worked with these two companies to define an approach that we believe will deliver the transformational change in the shortest possible time and in the least disruptive manner”, he said.
He said the management was committed to and excited about the journey “we are about to embark upon in transforming the NNPC. We believe we can deliver on and even surpass our mandate and objective and truly become a world class oil and gas company. Already we have noted the enthusiastic reception of management’s decision to embark on this change journey and this has further reinforced our conviction that it is not only the right thing but the time is right”.
The GMD solicited the support of all the staff for the project.
