Bozimo Inaugurates Police Monitoring Panel From George Oji in Abuja Minister of Police Affairs, Broaderick Bozimo, has formally inaugurated the "Committee on Police Surveillance," meant to monitor activities of the Nigeria police men and women. Inaugurating the 16 body committee, which is to function as a civilian oversight outfit of the police, Bozimo said the establishment of the committee had already received the blessing of President Olusegun Obasanjo. Speaking on the mode of operation of the committee at the inauguration event on Tuesday the minister said, "The police performance unit will have the responsibility of receiving an collating information, complaints and reports on the activities of the Nigeria police nationwide. The result of such assessment will be used to reward performance and correct identified problems. This way, we will gradually evolve a more responsive, people oriented and friendly police. He said the committee comprising distinguished representatives of stakeholders drawn from various facets of the society would analyse all complaints and reports received from various parts of the country on the activities and conduct of the police and make quarterly reports on same for implementation. Members of the committee, which is chaired by former Managing Director of the New Nigerian Newspaper, Hajia Binta Yusuf include Alahi Gidado Hamman, President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Chief Ayuba Omokhuwa Giwa, Mike Nkwocha, Dr. Kemi Rotimi, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, Abba Mohammed and representatives of the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police.
