Don Slumps, Dies Ekiti From Dipo Okunmuyide in Ado-Ekiti Tragedy struck in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday when a Professor with the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD), slumped in a popular drinking joint on Ajilosun area of the state capital and died immediately. There was confusion at the relaxation joint owned by an aide of the immediate past governor of the state, when Professor Olalere Akande, aged 52, who has been a regular customer to the pub suddenly collapsed after sweating profusely. Those at the joint quickly rushed Akande to the state Specialist Hospital in Ado-Ekiti after a failed attempt to revive him. Doctors at the hospital however confirmed him dead, suspecting cardiac arrest. A Professor of Botany, late Akande until his death was the Dean of Post Graduate School of UNAD and was born at Ogbomoso in Oyo State. Meanwhile, the authorities of UNAD have made a formal announcement of the death of the professor who was described as one of the most hardworking, courageous and dedicated staff of the university. A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Ajibade Olubunmi and made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti stated that: "The Vice-Chancellor, Management and entire community of the university announce with deep regrets the passing on of Professor Olalere Akande." The unfortunate incident, according to report happened at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday night when the professor left his house which was few metres away to relax at the joint.
