Employers violating Labour laws risks sanctions By Bassey Udo Snr Correspondent, Abuja   Employers of Labour in the country violating Labour laws and international Labour standards risk Federal Government sanctions. Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Hassan Lawal, who gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja, said government was deeply concerned over the deplorable standards of Labour practices in the country and the need for change. Lawal, who was addressing the opening session of the on-going two-day retreat in Abuja organised for senior civil servants in the ministry from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said the retreat was organised to sensitise them on the reform programmes of the Federal Government as well as provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on measures that should be adopted to improve service delivery in the ministry. Describing as poor the quality of services rendered by public servants in the country to its various clients, he said government’s expectation in this direction was to improve, reiterating the mandate of his ministry as that of improving the working conditions through efficient Labour practices, laws and administration based on international Labour standards.       Copyright� 2002.
