Nwafor influenced impeachment of Abaribe - Speaker

By Uche Nwosu,

special corresponent, Umuahia

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Stanley Ohajuruka, on Thursday, said the Deputy Governor, Chima Nwafor, facilitated and influenced the removal of his kinsman and predecessor in office, Chief Enyinnaiya Abaribe.

Testifying at the impeachment panel set up by the state judiciary, Ohajuruka said Nwafor “encouraged the state legislature morally and otherwise to impeach Abaribe.”

Answering a question under cross examination by the defence lawyer, Mr. Chibuike Nwokeukwu, the speaker who is a principal witness said when Nwafor helped to remove his kinsman it did not amount to ethnic cleansing, but that how can he now allege that his own impeachment amounts to ethnic cleansing.

He argued that the clause “ethnic cleansing” shouldn’t have been used to describe the impeachment procedure “because we’re not talking about ostracisation, annihilation or killing of a people based on their ethnic background.”
