Sections News Editorial/Opinion Cover Choice Arts & Life Business Politics Sports   Subscription Form Click here          Daily Independent Online.         * Friday, July 23, 2004. 2007: Former rector canvasses privatised NTA, FRCN By Segun Adeleye Reporter, Abeokuta    Ahead of the 2007 general elections, the former Deputy Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Dr. Lai Oso, has canvassed the privatisation of both the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to curb election rigging in the country.  Oso, who delivered a lecture, entitled Impact of Grassroot broadcasting on Democratic Governance in Nigeria to mark the first year anniversary of Paramount F.M. 94.5, Abeokuta, added that rigging which allegedly characterised the last election would be a re-current decimal if the status quo remains.  He said the proliferation of private broadcasting stations were not enough excuse for the Federal Government to hold on to the media.  In his 15-page lecture, delivered at the Department of Mass Communication (MAPOLY), he called for self-re-orientation on the parts of journalists to re-define news, just as he faulted the practice of allowing elites to determine news value.       Copyright� 2002.
