Height of delusion
We refer to the
interview run by Daily Independent on pages C1 and C3 of Friday, July 16, 2004 edition.
Your personality was the
Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Akwa Ibom State,
Ekpenyong Ntekim.
His views evidently reveal his
deep-seated hatred for the progress of our State. Dismissing such a fait
accompli as the 2003 elections and those who have come into power in
Uyo as a result of the polls as “imaginary” is to say the least the
height of delusion and arrogance.
Ntekim also delved into issues
that are sub judice, matters that courts are already
handling. And he is a lawyer
and former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Akwa Ibom.
Concerning his claim that
Governor Victor Attah’s “achievements exist only in the media,” we of
Akwa Ibom Improvement Movement (AKIM) know too much of what we have seen
in the State between 1999 and now to understand the politics of
negativity Ntekim is playing.
Before Ntekim defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to
ANPP in 2001, one of the things he kept on telling all of us was that
Akwa Ibom under Attah had never had it so successful in governance and
leadership.
It is also disappointing that
your reporter contributed to the offensive drip in the interview by
asking tendentious and subjective questions like, “how long do you want
to continue these (outrageous) systems and how do you intend to rescue
the state?”
At any rate we at AKIM
appreciate what Attah’s Administration has done so far. For true lovers of Akwa Ibom
State, the least to do is to support his noble vision, not to flog a
so-called “tragedy” of rigged elections.
Ntekim and others should not
distract Governor Attah from the mandate the people of Akwa Ibom have
given him.
