Kwande Commission Begins Sitting Tomorrow From Daniel Ior in Makurdi The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the political disturbances in Kwande and Ukum Local Government Areas is to commence public sitting tomorrow, even as the opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) insists that non of her members would appear before the commission. The Commission was earlier scheduled to have commenced sitting July 19, it however, postponed the date and extended the deadline for the submission of memoranda by one additional week. Secretary of the Committee, W. E. Itodo told THISDAY, that following the low interest shown �even though the dedlline has passed, we are still receiving memoranda to accommodate all interest groups. Already the ANPP has said it would not appear before the commission. It also said it holds the motive behind the setting up of the crisis suspect. According to the party "past conduct and disposition of the government makes the current move suspect. What is the purpose of a probe as the government has already declared that: Unongo is the cause of the crisis?" The party queried adding both Unongo and Saror are already guilty and a probe is merely to legitimise this mindset. Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Geoffrey Agenor, however described such fears as unfounded. He said the aim of the commission was neither to witch-hunt nor settle scores with any body and advised the ANPP to avoid itself the opportunity. In a press statement made available to THISDAY, to Commission however, announced that "members of the public wishing to testify before the commission may choose to appear either in person or be represented by lawyers."
