Agency to Empower Women From Funmi Peter-Omale in Jos Country Director of Center for Development and Population Activities, (CEDPA), Professor Paulina Makinwa-Adebu-soye has affirmed that the organisation is poised to empowering Nigerian women, communities and individuals to contribute to sustainable socio-economic and political development of Nigeria. She stated this yesterday at a workshop on HIV/AIDS for TEKAN church leaders held at COCIN headquarters Jos. The Country Director the HIV/AIDS disease was ravaging Nigeria and that it poses the greatest challenge to the nation's development. While noting the importance of a rigorous work in fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge, Makinde-Adebusoye averred that the collaborative exercise was aimed at addressing the challenges and problems encountered by church organizations in responding to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. She enjoined all to put heads together and formulate a strategic plan to effectively respond to important issues raised by the pandemic. Also contributing, David Tyokigihir noted that the Church has the reputation and appropriate ministries to reach all levels of people in the society. "The church can provide true hope in all situations and has the means and calling to do this most effectively. I believe that if the Church effectively mobilizes her members and other resources, we can make a significant contribution in this area.
