...Raises Body on Judiciary From Chinedu Eze in Abakaliki Ebonyi State Judiciary has inaugurated a committee on the increase of the civil and criminal jurisdictions of Magistrate Courts in the state. Speaking while inaugurating the committee at the weekend, acting Chief Judge of the State, Justice Aloy Nwankwo said that the Committee would play a crucial role in the enhancement of qualitative and quick justice delivery as well as digestion of the prisons and quick resolution of cases in the state. The Judge informed the members of the committee that their assignment was to peruse through the present civil and criminal jurisdictions of Magistrate Courts in the state and advise the Chief Judge through their report. He said that he carefully chose members of the Committee, saying each member had a good track record of hard work, integrity, honesty, dedication to work �and in fact, above all patriotism to our father land". Nwankwo said that the Committee's advice would assist the Chief Judge in making proper recommendation to the governor on the need for an increase in both civil and criminal Jurisdictions of Magistrate Courts in the State in line with Section 27(1) Cap 82 Laws of Eastern Nigeria 1963 as amended and applicable in the state. "Ebonyi State Judiciary attaches great need and urgency in the Constitution of this Committee, thus, you are expected to wind up your deliberations and submit your report on or before the 31st day of August, 2004", the Acting Chief Judge directed.
