KINSMEN and
family of late Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Lady
Uzoamaka Nwizu have dropped any further interest in any official probe into her
death.
Lady Nwizu reportedly died July 2, 2004,
at a hospital in the United States. She headed NIS for four years.
According to Mr. Asomugha if the
government ordered a probe into her death, "it would be able to set a precedent
and arrest any such further occurrence.

However, at an emergency cabinet meeting
of the Nnewi royal family yesterday, it said it was distancing itself from the
probe demand by the Nnewi community.
President Obasanjo had recently denied any
hope of any investigation into her death, saying there was no need for it.
The latest development runs contrary to
earlier position of the Nnewi community in Abuja, an organization which Lady
Nwizu, a prominent daughter of Nnewi belonged.
Sunday Champion
found that barely a week ago, the chairman of the Nnewi
community in Abuja Mr. Nnamdi Asomugha had urged the federal government to
institute a probe into what killed the Comptroller-General.
Mr. Asomugha had in an interview with
Champion Newspapers in Abuja said: "The treatment meted to Lady Nwizu, if not
probed and offenders punished, could be replicated at other levels of
government.
On the other hand, the traditional
institution said it would leave God to avenge the death of the departed
Immigration chief, if indeed foul play featured in her death as insinuated in
some quarters.
President of the Nnewi royal cabinet, Dr.
Dozie Ikedibe who spoke on behalf of the cabinet yesterday explained that the
community had concluded plans to accord the woman, married to one of their sons
a befitting burial.
Earlier, a section of the Nnewi community
had asked the federal government to probe the remote causes of the demise of the
NIS boss, following insinuations that her death smacked of foul play.
But in another twist, the Royal cabinet
charged God to avenge the death of the woman if she was killed by any person,
adding that it should rather be seen as one of the things that man should learn
from.
Ikedibe who is also the Anambra State
president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo said:
"We pray God to grant her soul eternal
rest, she had lived a good life, only God knows everything."
