Gov.Kalu pulls out of suspended Slok Airline

GOVERNOR Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia has said he is withdrawing his interest in the suspended Slok Airline.

Slok Air was one of two airlines suspended on March 15 by the Ministry of Aviation over allegations of "unethical practices".

The suspension of the other airline, IRS airline, had since been lifted.

Kalu told newsmen at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja Lagos, that he had decided to forget everything about the airline since it had been difficult for him to create jobs for Nigerians through its existence.

"I have forgotten completely everything about Slok; and, I have no bitterness about it because anything that happens to a man is for his own good. This might be for my own good," the governor said.

However, he added: "If people in public offices try to create jobs as I have done, I believe Nigeria will be a better place to live in."

Kalu disclosed that the owners of the four aircraft on Slok’s fleet, Jetram International, a U.S-based company, had indicated their readiness to reclaim their aircraft as they were on lease purchase.

He also revealed that one of the domestic airlines, Chanchagi, had approached Slok’s management to lease the aircraft, noting that it was uneconomical for them to remain on ground.

On Thursday in Abuja, workers of the airline appealed to the NLC President, Adams Oshiomhole, to intervene in the lingering face-off between their employer and the government.

Kalu was returning from the U.S, where he negotiated a $12 million loan from the World Bank to boost the development of Abia.
