Naval Chief Cautions Against Oil Workers' Sack From George Oji in Abuja Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Samuel Afolayan has cautioned oil companies operating in the Niger Delta region against the practice of replacing Nigerian workers with their foreign counterparts, describing such acts as capable of generating instability in the region. Speaking while receiving the General Manager of Chevron Texaco Global Security, Mr. Scott Taylor in his office in Abuja at the weekend, Afolayan urged the oil companies to intensify efforts in the development of the region through the provision of infrastructure instead. He said sack of host oil workers by the companies was capable of endangering the fragile peace in the region through protests. Afolayan who is the acting Chief of Defence Staff, stressed the need to open up the Niger Delta region to development, particularly since fishery, which constituted the main business of the people had been affected by oil spillage. He tasked the oil companies to complement effort of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Federal Government by constructing good network of roads in the region and other parts of the country.
