Bank Robbery, a Mistaken Identity - CP From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Kwara State Police Commis-sioner, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar has described penultimate week bloody attack on a bullion van by armed robbers along the Omu-Aran federal highway as a case of mistaken identity of the bank to rob. Abubakar which fielded questions from newsmen in Ilorin, confirmed that the gang who attacked the bullion van got information of an intra-bank money transfer involving a huge amount but attacked another bullion van conveying the money of another bank. According to him, "the robbers got wind of a bank wanting to move a large sum of money to Omu-Aran but did not know that another bank moving very small money would on the same day use the same route for its transaction". He disclosed that the bank with huge sum of money had never been robbed in recent times and added that the security escort and the bullion van were taken hostage and robbed. Media reports indicated that 16 people including four policemen were killed in the cross fire at gunshots while an undisclosed amount was allegedly carted away.
