Admission Congestion Delays Army Promotion lagos By Oghenekevwe Laba No fewer than 580 officers of the Nigerian Army who have passed their promotion examinations and Nigerian Army Staff College, Jaji, qualification have not been able to go to the senior division, because they have not gone through the staff College as a result of congestion in the institution. To clear the backlog of qualified officers waiting to be admitted, the Nigerian Army has decided to introduce a new admission policy into the institution. Speaking to officers and men of the Nigerian Army during the graduation of the first set of officers of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics in Lagos on Friday, Nigerian Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Martin Luther Agwai, said the new admission policy became necessary, to clear backlog. To solve the problem, Agwai said they have mapped out strategies by making sure that the number of junior officers .to be promoted to the senior division would be limited to 300, explaining that if they can be able to eliminate 300 this year and do the same next year, the backlog of officers awaiting admission would be reduced, which explains why there would be no examination for admission into the College this year. In his words, "after eliminating this backlog, it is only officers that meet our requirement that will go to the Staff College . If for example in the year 2006, Nigerian Army needs 120 students to attend the Staff College, examination will be written and only the first 120 who pass all their papers will qualify.
